The original wound

In my last email, I wrote about the endless healing loops so many of us find ourselves in. Here's where I want to follow up with some clarification — because healing can be defined in many ways, and it can facilitate spiritual awareness.

For me, healing on the spiritual path is about coming home to who you really are. Whatever needs tending along that journey can be part of both a healing and an awakening process.

But here's the catch: we start with our true selves.

We begin by remembering our wholeness and goodness — not earning it through decades of shadow work, ancestral healing, and parts therapy. Then, it is from our creative, loving, whole self that different types of healing paths can unfold.

And: The original wound, if we're going to call it that, is an illusion of separation not just from some spiritual sense of self, but from the web of life itself. Healing — real healing — is the restoration of this memory within the body, psyche, and soul.

The Taoist arts I practice, especially the alchemical anointings, have always rested on this premise: The goal was never just treating illness — the goal was restoring the soul's blueprint for this lifetime.

When the body is understood as a microcosm of the natural world, and when health is understood as alignment — with nature, the cosmos, and your own soul — then healing becomes a support for spiritual growth.

We also need to take healing out of being an individual practice. Yes, we have individual responsibilities and opportunities for growing through our challenges. But our health is never separate from the layers upon layers of systems we live within.

When your precious hours are spent at a soul-sucking job, when your beauty products are full of synthetic hormones, when your psyche is bombarded with pings of addictive information…it's very hard to stay connected with your soul truth in any sustainable sense. You aren't doing something wrong and it's not on you alone to fix this. This is societal — a personal experience of the collective healing we need.

So yes — heal on your path. But do so with an important awareness: You don't need to "be healed" to be spiritual. You can access spiritual connection right now, just as you are. Any spiritual healing adventures should bring you closer to this truth.

This understanding lives at the heart of sacred aromatics — it is authentically different from the “purify and pay to become whole” track.

In both Taoist alchemy and the Western temple traditions, anointing is a practice of consecration and restoration.

Fragrance returns us to our divine blueprint and soul coherence. We start from wholeness, and the plants help us remember what is already true.

They collapse timelines, dissolve obstacles, and bring us into the present moment where we experience that truth in a way that we can work with.

Anointing restores our place in the web of life, too.

Every oil begins as a living plant rooted in a particular place: rose in Egyptian gardens, frankincense on a desert tree, vetiver deep in the soil, juniper on the high desert hills. When we anoint, we receive the medicine of these beings and remember our kinship with them.

And within the systems we live in, sacred aromatics offers a simple, radical act.

Most of us wear synthetic fragrance every day, much of which can contain endocrine-disrupting phthalates. Replacing this with living plant aromatics is one of the most immediate ways to take our bodies back from the collective toxic soup.

In Sacred Aromatics Foundations, we spend six live weeks anointing, burning sacred resins, and meeting five plant allies in depth. You'll learn how to attune the frequency of your body, your space, and your creative vision to the wholeness that is you.

Our first circle is October 14. Earlybird pricing ($497) ends October 11, and if the first circle isn't right for you, I'll refund you in full.

Still here? Wow - you deserve a present :) A tiny secret for you before you go:

There’s a beautiful calming point in the ear located just behind the little cartilage fold at the front of the upper ear. Hold it gently on both sides for one minute and take a slow breath. It’s especially lovely with a drop of anointing oil. ;)

Blessed Equinox, Reader! Persephone has begun her chthonic descent. Virgo is releasing the reigns of control to the fair and harmonious Libra. And here in the northern hemisphere, like our ancestors before us, we begin to prepare for colder, darker days. It seems wild that we're entering the darker half of the year already. I'm not ready for summer to end…I still have so many things to make with plants!!! lol But alas, the wheel of the year continues to turn. During Virgo season, we prepared....

A single pale pink bell-shaped flower with yellow stamens among dark green leaves

A dab on the wrist, a splash behind the ears. To the French aristocrats of the 17th century, these points held the allure of seduction. Perfume would waft from neck to nose during greetings, whispers, and embraces. The wrists and neck are also known pulse points. Did our perfumed ancestors intuit how powerful anointing these places with fragrant oils could be? Within the energetic matrix of the body, a heart protective meridian — the pericardium — runs down the arm, with a few key points...

Two pale pink rose blossoms against a dark green blurred background

A few years ago, I woke up on Christmas morning and my sense of smell was gone. This is awful for anyone…but for a perfumer? Absolutely devastating. It was a slow recovery. Though my smell had mostly come back by mid February, I could tell that I wasn’t picking up on the subtle nuances I used to. Smell is an often overlooked yet crucial sense. A strong sense of smell has always been a mark of a healer — the ability to sniff out both the diseases and the cures. It’s also closely associated...
