When the world seems to be falling apart, we grieve. And, when we’re ready, we create.

Rudolf Clausius, a 19th century German physicist, coined the term entropy to describe “the undoing of being” — an apt description of not only the nature of the universe, but of the metamorphic times we live in.

When coining this new term, Clausius turned to the Greek tropē, meaning “transformation”.

Because energy cannot be destroyed nor can it be created. It can only be transformed.

So entropy — which so often is seen as a negative, or a force to counter in some way — is at its core, also an invitation to create.

Destruction and creation, two ends of the same pole.

And, entropy isn’t the only universal law at play in our lives. The universe is also expanding — the fabric of space stretching infinitely onward.

We dissolve and grow continuously.

These universal movements create the foundation for alchemy — to take the entropy upon us and create something new and beautiful in a world that could really use some reminders of how beautiful life can be.

You know who make especially good alchemists in this sense? Artists and magicians…which are kind of one in the same ;)

Lucky for us, we are entering to a season of magic — one that creates the foundations for all of us to access our innate ability to create order from chaos, and beauty from the transformational nature of entropy.

Virgo Season is here — and this is the time of that late summer magic.

Virgo is an earth sign ruled by Mercury. This is a really special combo. Because it’s magical. Literally. Magic.

Mercury is the messenger and magician of the Zodiac. And even though the energy of Mercury is incredibly mental, Virgo is grounded thanks to the earthiness of this sign.

When mental focus meets the physical world, magic is born.

Don’t let pop culture narratives keep you from your magic this season: Of all the signs of the zodiac, Virgo probably has the most warped reputation thanks to patriarchal suppression of the feminine. Virgo’s greatest gifts — being of service, attention to detail, impeccable execution, devotion to the sacred — were turned into annoyances.

Rather than being the priestess devoted to the temple, Virgos became deprived virgins and nitpicky perfectionists. What a convenient way to diminish the feminine….

In truth, Virgo is not only the Virgin — whole unto herself — but the quintessential priestess and magician. The bridge between the sacred and mundane.

(And definitely the one sign we all want with us on a desert island. Because there’s some truth to the perfectionism. Virgos do things right. The first time. You’re welcome.)

An Aromatic Journey from Chaos to Cosmic Order

In Egypt, the principle that holds order against chaos had a name: Ma'at. She is cosmic order itself, the structure that makes creation possible. Her consort Thoth — the Egyptian Mercury-Magician — enacts her principles in the material world. A fitting pair for Virgo season.
